| Lakers Look To End Scoring Drought Authored by Scott Essman - November 16, 2005 - 12:54 am
The Lakers returned home Tuesday, and it wasn’t a day too soon. Coming off of a flat end to their road trip, the Lakers look to spice things up at home with a five-game homestand that begins Wednesday against the New York Knicks. After three straight losses in which the Lakers scored just 74, 81 and 73 respectively, they will need some new ideas in their offense while at home.
Predictably, the Lakers will look to Kobe Bryant, who scored just 18 against the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Bryant’s previous per-game scoring average was in the mid-30s. Reportedly, Bryant suffered a hand injury during the road trip.
Of course, the Lakers will greatly benefit by contributions from Bryant’s teammates. Center Chris Mihm needs to stabilize his on-again, off-again offensive prowess. Likewise, forward Lamar Odom must prove a reliable force both in scoring and rebounding.
With certainty, Smush Parker has provided steady scoring and assisting in the point guard position. But other Lakers outside of that group have been noticeably quiet. At least one other player needs to step forward to regulate the Lakers’ attack. |
