After two lackluster losses late last week against Sacramento and Phoenix where Laker guard Kobe Bryant "only" scored 51 and 37 respectively, the 27-year-old made sure that he scored enough points for the Lakers to beat the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night. Bryant went off for an astounding 81 points, ensuring the Lakers 122-104 victory.

Bryant scored 55 in the second half of the game alone, a game which found the Lakers behind deep in double figures in the first half. The 81 were second most in NBA history, behind Wilt Chamberlain's 100 on March 2, 1962 against the New York Knicks in Hershey, PA.

Bryant's 81 points were 66% of the team's total points in the game.

Bryant had been averaging 38 points-per-game the past five games and 34.8 points-per-game for the entire
2005-2006 season prior to the contest against Toronto.

The previous invididual Laker highest point total for a game had been 71 by Elgin Baylor on November 15, 1960 in Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.
